Benjamin Springer
If I know very little about my oldest Springer relative, I know even less about his son and my ggg-grandfather, Benjamin Springer. Benjamin was born to David and Margaret Springer in 1771 near Albany, New York, and died in 1834, in Blenheim, Ontario, Canada. He worked as a merchant and farmer and died in a cholera epidemic, along with his wife, Mary Ryckman. Their gravestones read: "In/these graves lies/the remains of Benjamin Springer/died August 1834/aged 63 yrs/also of Mary wife of same/died August 1834/aged 57 years." Mary Ryckman, my ggg-grandmother, was also the child of a Loyalist who immigrated to Canada after the Revolutionary War.
Benjamin and Mary's deaths left the youngest of their children, Moses, an orphan at the age of 10.
